It is a phrase we hear often in the Christian world. It is often preached about, we see it on signs, paintings, t-shirts.<br />
<br />
<img alt="Image result for here i am send me" height="200" src="https://sugarlipsandstyletips.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/img_2341.jpg" width="183" /><br />
It is so common it can almost seem blase. It's easy to say, I know I for one am quick to say "God, here I am send me," but it is another thing entirely to live that out in our lives. Sometimes for me I say "Here I am send me," but the subtext is "Here I am send me (preferably to somewhere warm and Spanish-speaking and ideally near a beach. K thanks)."<br />
<br />
I do honestly want to serve, to make a difference, but for me the more difficult thing is to stay.<br />
I want the new, the different, the exciting. My soul longs for adventure. And to escape. Escape the everyday. the ordinary. But God has called me to be faithful. This spring/summer I have been telling God, "Here I am send me" on repeat and then maybe a little louder "Hey God! Send me!" I decided since I had been called to Nicaragua before He probably wouldn't mind if I went again even if I had not heard a call so I began to quietly plan my trip.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSWDskASrShfETkVns7qOX0L-3cWlPcD5jPtVPhbd9GsYJfEaZ9N4pRu2KgY-Us0YN_eJYgB8h4qtx0qAkGw5u3uq5EVs3ZQGphAMoE963tub52V-7fO43_hqwHmGc5EuepvYHvjl32yRO/s1600/DSCF5215.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1195" data-original-width="1600" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSWDskASrShfETkVns7qOX0L-3cWlPcD5jPtVPhbd9GsYJfEaZ9N4pRu2KgY-Us0YN_eJYgB8h4qtx0qAkGw5u3uq5EVs3ZQGphAMoE963tub52V-7fO43_hqwHmGc5EuepvYHvjl32yRO/s320/DSCF5215.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And then my sister sent me a message "have you seen what's happening in Nicaragua??" protests had broken out against the government, dozens were killed, and my plans came to a screeching halt.<br />
I went through a time of mourning, what was I going to do with my summer??? I started teaching so I could travel and do missions is the summer (seriously. it's a good thing I love my job!) and not once has this plan worked!<br />
<br />
And then He spoke. It is not just send me, but use me. Here I am, use me. Use me here, use me now. I need to be faithful in the small things to be used where I am at. Obedience is not just in the grand, but in the everyday. For me, it is no sacrifice to go. I long to be sent to the ends of the earth. But. God has called me to be faithful, and for this season that means stay. That is hard for me, to face a summer with no plans, no travel. This reminds me of David, when he says "I will not sacrifice that which cost me nothing." It may be small, but it is obedience, sacrifice to do what God has called, to set aside my wants, my desires and follow Him even when it means staying.<br />
<br />
DISCLAIMER: By no means, am I discounting the work of foreign missionaries. That is a difficult life, to leave home, your culture, everything that is familiar and try to adapt to that of your new country.The Mississippi Marthahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12760097546782267795noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5740857285744291153.post-70029980282011632482017-05-16T05:00:00.000-07:002017-05-16T05:00:19.106-07:00Florida Room InspirationNot all of us are fortunate enough to live in sunny Florida or at the beach. You can easily bring the sunshine state vibe into your home without looking cheesy or over top. Sun room and Florida room are synonymous. I would love to have a Florida room in my home, as soon as it warms up I start every morning sitting out on my back porch enjoying the weather. With a Florida room, you can enjoy the outdoors year round. <br />
<br />
<br />
There are three main elements I would add to every Florida room. Whether your style is traditional or eclectic, these are my go-tos.<br />
First is the lighting. Light is a major element of a Florida room. Large open windows are key to let in the sunshine! For the lighting fixtures, I like to use a light pendant that doesn't take up a lot of visual space.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeO9i5CEEkEixH9D3XQ4Rrq24VyaRvVg-0SXITEdMpyRwOhEPNlCwibhWUg7BcBUrHi4A43Zmxcds9ZQHZLW_FrW8ugc7ABYdCU1RDWSFqtQU1OK8B5N2RIUwbdVbsyMObecqQm3gjedto/s1600/Neutral+Florida+Room.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="410" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeO9i5CEEkEixH9D3XQ4Rrq24VyaRvVg-0SXITEdMpyRwOhEPNlCwibhWUg7BcBUrHi4A43Zmxcds9ZQHZLW_FrW8ugc7ABYdCU1RDWSFqtQU1OK8B5N2RIUwbdVbsyMObecqQm3gjedto/s640/Neutral+Florida+Room.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Traditional Neutral Florida Room</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Next is a natural element. Jute rugs, wicker or rattan furniture, baskets these all play well with all styles and add texture to the room. The natural element adds warmth to the space and the texture adds interest. <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvKy1-bjkOXZ8_hyphenhyphenc4ZBRsP-y6w5wJWiiRI2ME46eQRlemeh6mPbiFtL9qXI5qfCSKZxxsSZIEcWXHJ6018ErAZLwxxyyO3sxIirxD9DoUvOkKW2Z9mS8EUuKbcoMvFdjLrltzS9-darlp/s1600/Citrus+Inspo+Board.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="492" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvKy1-bjkOXZ8_hyphenhyphenc4ZBRsP-y6w5wJWiiRI2ME46eQRlemeh6mPbiFtL9qXI5qfCSKZxxsSZIEcWXHJ6018ErAZLwxxyyO3sxIirxD9DoUvOkKW2Z9mS8EUuKbcoMvFdjLrltzS9-darlp/s640/Citrus+Inspo+Board.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Citrus Inspired</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Lastly, I love to incorporate live plants into the décor as well. They help add life and vibrance to the room. Plus, nothing gives beach vibes like a tropical plant. My personal favorite is the fiddle leaf fig. <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitEWh6C5_xFg54Q7uJ8FCvBR0SD8bCmG3B898HzTHPqWjZnXGVhyjkXN4IcprA0vRYuKhRxQ41K2NndxkUibMHduL8ZolbYDgOeBPcrPgOGJ99HkAGScokT4NbCX0eOmq5bfUv0n-eTDbD/s1600/Global+Glam.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="530" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitEWh6C5_xFg54Q7uJ8FCvBR0SD8bCmG3B898HzTHPqWjZnXGVhyjkXN4IcprA0vRYuKhRxQ41K2NndxkUibMHduL8ZolbYDgOeBPcrPgOGJ99HkAGScokT4NbCX0eOmq5bfUv0n-eTDbD/s640/Global+Glam.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Global Glam</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
For the design boards, I chose furniture without skirts or low to the ground. The legs on the furniture helps keep the room light and the eye moving. I didn't want the furniture to add a lot of visual weight. In my opinion, a Florida room should be light, bright, and airy!<br />

New house = new furniture, I wish at least. My headboard since college has been a not-so-lovely bookshelf/headboard combo. I donated mine before taking a picture, but it was very similar to this. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now I love some good midcentury, but this just wasn't cutting it. Mine also had the added bonus of a spray painted gold h on the side. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I wanted an upholstered headboard, and my nonexistent budget meant I would have to make it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img height="359" src="https://images.crateandbarrel.com/is/image/Crate/ColetteQnBedOrgnNaturalSHS15_16x9/$web_zoom_furn_hero$/150417133036/colette-bed.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I of course love the ever popular <a href="http://www.crateandbarrel.com/colette-upholstered-bed/f60880" target="_blank">Colette</a>, but decided to add a slight wing more like this picture<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnM7Xj_cSUTRtS8EgFI5K6Y3DeTR7U1qrAYtvCUaKZegxsXImYx_1nE1_9cGxHJkddmsxJcS_OyZwJN0kdcVrcsHKD0dEkVSYfBk0e15_bNdlikoq6USjD155q05gUBFeDwX32SN03v_VP/s1600/13567162.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnM7Xj_cSUTRtS8EgFI5K6Y3DeTR7U1qrAYtvCUaKZegxsXImYx_1nE1_9cGxHJkddmsxJcS_OyZwJN0kdcVrcsHKD0dEkVSYfBk0e15_bNdlikoq6USjD155q05gUBFeDwX32SN03v_VP/s640/13567162.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I got to work over Christmas break with my dad's help. I showed him a million pictures, he questioned my upholstering skills and we eventually mapped out the shape. <br />
<br />
You will need:<br />
plywood (varies depending on bed size)<br />
jigsaw<br />
string<br />
batting<br />
memory foam<br />
3-4 yards of fabric<br />
staples<br />
staple gun<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqY9jPJkwxo0d9Tujpwmv0n-AxrDcwg9ijSkno8pDWR3NS3M2DmfmcAAOFBy0KkuQiTk5iBmsVWRYy-4xMShpm3nmj8BGzeiS_ZIuQ7qUmB2aapAaG83YbWzNkHVmvzUsJ9iIT2tRQ7-nW/s1600/220.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqY9jPJkwxo0d9Tujpwmv0n-AxrDcwg9ijSkno8pDWR3NS3M2DmfmcAAOFBy0KkuQiTk5iBmsVWRYy-4xMShpm3nmj8BGzeiS_ZIuQ7qUmB2aapAaG83YbWzNkHVmvzUsJ9iIT2tRQ7-nW/s400/220.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I measured my plywood to be 3 inches wider than my mattress, so I would have room for batting and to attach the wings. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaJxilwVKfoMykj4x6lrIenFg0vbpMdJRBWlMjXI-t1ysv3FEjuqMABpsjLq6FI3PnC1HVAo6KVe6S05gb6vtxkqA2lSnSHbQ-OYitg4nmzqtKsvljG1wfkTsq04Fo7iqH8cR3SsSO7RpN/s1600/217.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaJxilwVKfoMykj4x6lrIenFg0vbpMdJRBWlMjXI-t1ysv3FEjuqMABpsjLq6FI3PnC1HVAo6KVe6S05gb6vtxkqA2lSnSHbQ-OYitg4nmzqtKsvljG1wfkTsq04Fo7iqH8cR3SsSO7RpN/s400/217.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am all right brain and was ready to just free hand the shape, but my smart Daddy came up with a much better idea. We put a nail at the bottom of the headboard in the middle and attached a string. Then tied a loop in the other end of the string. The string serves as a giant compass so you get an even arch. You can adjust the amount of arch by changing the string length or moving the nail. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One point for the left brainers!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My advice is to go slightly more dramatic with the arch. Once you add batting and fabric, the lines are really softened. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2gDgAJaAMYDL5J4syIM1msU5CJws5Mc2l5Ha8q-utzy8xqQGI6yzjllAgbmMNeISehFPWNW1Tk0N_uZEaEQEJvH7R6Sgc4jveLFLlY7_gR5tRTh_Ep-heqc-jeju07Y79Cb3Dp4zj2zP8/s1600/218.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2gDgAJaAMYDL5J4syIM1msU5CJws5Mc2l5Ha8q-utzy8xqQGI6yzjllAgbmMNeISehFPWNW1Tk0N_uZEaEQEJvH7R6Sgc4jveLFLlY7_gR5tRTh_Ep-heqc-jeju07Y79Cb3Dp4zj2zP8/s400/218.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I marked each side with one inch lines and used the square to draw a straight line from the edge on each side. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9FIDoNoX6TMqaGT0GZR29mn0vDoZz9JYLIARTqvutTwVeHUn5MhuMMo6xNBp6sV3Iiv0ScoYEdAsBHJajTSAEQe0Y6bW1rUrg6tBtc_cSJRmr9I3wE9mWgem9ZElAnheFas7OtvrJQiF3/s1600/222.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9FIDoNoX6TMqaGT0GZR29mn0vDoZz9JYLIARTqvutTwVeHUn5MhuMMo6xNBp6sV3Iiv0ScoYEdAsBHJajTSAEQe0Y6bW1rUrg6tBtc_cSJRmr9I3wE9mWgem9ZElAnheFas7OtvrJQiF3/s400/222.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
Then use your jigsaw to cut out your shape.<br />

<br /></div>

For the sides, we just winged it. pun intended (; We did double the thickness of the sides to give it weight and glued them together using wood glue. <br />

Now time for upholstery! I came across a memory foam mattress pad on super sale so I used that as my base. The edges will be rough when you cut it to fit the shape, but this will be covered in batting and a thick velvet so it's no big deal.<br />

For me, the key is to layer your lighting. Too often, we just use one layer, overhead lighting. However, it is best to vary height and function.<br />
<br />
My basic rule is to use three main layers: functional <a href="https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/lighting/" target="_blank">lighting</a>, a <a href="https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/lighting/pendant-lighting/" target="_blank">pendant</a> light or chandelier, and lamps of varying heights. This gives you options of different lighting for various activities and casts a more flattering light. Overhead light will cast shadows and is generally unflattering, adding in lamps at eye level helps to counteract this.<br />
<br />
Great lighting is one of the easiest ways to add style and character to a room. The biggest style impact is generally made by the overhead light. These are a few of my favorite pendants and chandeliers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDfTYcX6cv6WJiyFcEsTnuF1lhNfSRI7MddJTTvCdNlbxyHX_BQr1bFltS2-ID3KaAnRCaQVDWSbiQUI33_q2M0ihcIeHuynVXUTIBIx_j4blN4f-eBp4GE2YKDc9gP-1d0JJvrDrClIYi/s1600/Modern+Pendants_edited-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="284" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDfTYcX6cv6WJiyFcEsTnuF1lhNfSRI7MddJTTvCdNlbxyHX_BQr1bFltS2-ID3KaAnRCaQVDWSbiQUI33_q2M0ihcIeHuynVXUTIBIx_j4blN4f-eBp4GE2YKDc9gP-1d0JJvrDrClIYi/s640/Modern+Pendants_edited-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I would use all three of these together using the rectangular one over the dining room table, the geometric in the living room (maybe two of them depending on the size of the room), and the glass over the island.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUPKZvm8UbZucdcqDgOe2aL5TPQwrhIbZw7z3RGBnODUnw7Op0JhbeTVd6m1jSY3BUY_ZXt-zRRaVg-b6qabV8-LnPbb_5yi8NG5BdrRpH6U_bJNkCfDVl4AWUVr1K7BJCvV7_aiKW0hCa/s1600/Traditional+pendants_edited-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUPKZvm8UbZucdcqDgOe2aL5TPQwrhIbZw7z3RGBnODUnw7Op0JhbeTVd6m1jSY3BUY_ZXt-zRRaVg-b6qabV8-LnPbb_5yi8NG5BdrRpH6U_bJNkCfDVl4AWUVr1K7BJCvV7_aiKW0hCa/s400/Traditional+pendants_edited-2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
I love the wood finish of the <a href="https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/lighting/chandeliers/vanves-24-inch-wood-chandelier-in-natural/" target="_blank">round chandelier</a>, it is traditional without being too stuffy.<br />
<br />
This beaded chandelier makes me swoon. While some might not consider it traditional, it's neutral colors make it work in almost any setting. I would keep the rest of the room pretty simple like in the room below, and let the light be the star; it adds instant glamour and style.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixaUF8I17_SvLAvHpnJxtg12x48QVJ-YlFNiAHDtLbksYJ7M4OeLx3cTX0lSIh_bwszH6HJwmOdtTo5uh-AT_90EJX5QBei7Dt0AEXo_HXPcyo7h4mckJcwqXQE8s0Zco6cpQxMIJ9a60q/s1600/13743304_305933296421518_750979772_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixaUF8I17_SvLAvHpnJxtg12x48QVJ-YlFNiAHDtLbksYJ7M4OeLx3cTX0lSIh_bwszH6HJwmOdtTo5uh-AT_90EJX5QBei7Dt0AEXo_HXPcyo7h4mckJcwqXQE8s0Zco6cpQxMIJ9a60q/s400/13743304_305933296421518_750979772_n.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
This picture from <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BIstx5jBvx2/" target="_blank">Arhaus</a> really helps get an idea of the scale and all it's awesomness!<br />
<br />
Even better, the <a href="https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/lighting/chandeliers/lerato-chandelier-in-grey/" target="_blank">Lerato Chandelier</a> helps women affected by HIV in Africa.<br />
<br />
<span style="text-align: center;"><br /></span>
<span style="text-align: center;">Once you have your overhead lighting, then it is time to add in the second layer, lamps. Lamps are like the accessories for your room. They can add a little brightness or interest to any area. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMPX25cjuFmXcFsos43MRevZVrkz0ejbf6AoCUK9OfquGlbK-O5-L0Ugel99IWJu3Aei-ZpYQTQIicM-SxhXGbqsEnleLD8TPqGxkFjw6qK43Yub9_gZu0KpMoFNkmf0KbZiOB-nEyEaNn/s1600/Modern+lamps_edited-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMPX25cjuFmXcFsos43MRevZVrkz0ejbf6AoCUK9OfquGlbK-O5-L0Ugel99IWJu3Aei-ZpYQTQIicM-SxhXGbqsEnleLD8TPqGxkFjw6qK43Yub9_gZu0KpMoFNkmf0KbZiOB-nEyEaNn/s400/Modern+lamps_edited-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
This <a href="https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/lighting/floor-lamps/clarence-floor-lamp-with-natural-shade-in-antiqued-brass/" target="_blank">tripod lamp</a> has great finishes and details that up the style factor and it works well with almost any decor.<br />
The <a href="https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/lighting/table-lamps/lola-teardrop-table-lamp-with-natural-shade/" target="_blank">teardrop table lamp</a> is one of my favorites from this entire post; it is literally like jewelry for your room. The design is sleek and elegant and how can you go wrong with crystal!?!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT-9juKr4HsaHZpKsOghoyqnPn9-sIaeGfECITsO5o6kOcZi22Zdt-luU71R6yEXmzKFaxN3yGIpQCTtO02Mhat34VqxvEYcTCysX-UrQeQKvkrD6xyLS69MXJ_kox5fDN14Hz-n3aaXSc/s1600/IMG_4379.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT-9juKr4HsaHZpKsOghoyqnPn9-sIaeGfECITsO5o6kOcZi22Zdt-luU71R6yEXmzKFaxN3yGIpQCTtO02Mhat34VqxvEYcTCysX-UrQeQKvkrD6xyLS69MXJ_kox5fDN14Hz-n3aaXSc/s400/IMG_4379.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love the shape of the <a href="https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/lighting/table-lamps/st-augustine-carved-lamp/" target="_blank">rectangular lamp</a>, it adds an unexpected twist and the petite height is perfect for desk top or a sofa table. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These two really complement each other well. The <a href="https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/lighting/table-lamps/st.-augustine-finial-table-lamp/" target="_blank">finial table lamp</a> adds some serious architectural interest.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">The base layer is functional, almost every home needs recessed lighting. Something that will give you lots of light when you need it. Recessed lighting is not the star of the show, it should be in the background and set on dimmers to adjust the light.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>

Mine is by no means the next cover of House Beautiful. It's certainly not perfect, but it is mine and I love it.<br />
<br />
I don't think I could go full out tiny house, I require a separate shower and non-composting toilet, but the downsize has been nice!<br />
<br />
It was not love at first sight, really it wasn't even like at first sight<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
There were cat plates all over the wall and an old lady door. It's a lot blurry, but you get the picture...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfIeznmIRKPYSzjfOMe91RcPCUOQmr-KV3yzasDOAQxL6Tz2Q17PqH3tQKh7vLXySFPLbKDIqdf3B559HTJhAhRi6QM30v-Tf2oSkImYrLWqWQRUGVdoq9jS_ZIsaSNLfRl3rcN2O1UuYM/s1600/199.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfIeznmIRKPYSzjfOMe91RcPCUOQmr-KV3yzasDOAQxL6Tz2Q17PqH3tQKh7vLXySFPLbKDIqdf3B559HTJhAhRi6QM30v-Tf2oSkImYrLWqWQRUGVdoq9jS_ZIsaSNLfRl3rcN2O1UuYM/s640/199.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A year has passed, and a lot has changed (although the old lady door has not). I love my little old house now.<br />
<br />
While I know in blogger world you should never show before pictures and not the after but I promise they are coming.<br />
<br />
So for right now, just feast your eyes on all the cat plate old lady glory.<br />

I am currently jonesing for a project, so I was looking through my saved pictures for some inspiration. I came across these pictures I had saved, I am OBSESSED with this kitchen. I'm pretty sure I found it in the Ice Age before pinterest so I'm not sure where they are from. If anyone has a reference let me know.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love the open shelves and aqua tile with the rustic wood ceiling. The aqua tile in this kitchen, gave me the courage to go with the colored subway tile in my kitchen. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDLbUn8DVnrb04zMe-Mpqqf1M4SzVMOKQajmpznB_bDb_S_1p1i3G6B0Uzyvsf4uGO2OtZacAMz4vSupc5CWsEl45m5y7nYZj9riBN7roZIW_yZeMW4C1n8VXxxwjF3CCW1wqKt4nX5J2o/s1600/7656ee866bc04408131c11670dbdafeb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>

To me, it is the perfect mix of rustic and contemporary. This kitchen feels so inviting and like a place you would hang out.<br />

I have been planning on redoing our water closet for ages and finally got around to it right before I moved. Lots of things have changed since this project, but I never got around to sharing it and I <b>love love lov</b>e the way it turned out.<br />
<br />
If you spend any time on Pinterest, you have probably seen faux board and batten. I had been wanting to try this out in our bathroom for a while now.<br />
<br />
The master bath has a separate vanity area and then a water closet (seriously who knew there was a name for the tiny shower room!?). I originally wanted to do the whole area in board and batten to define the bedroom and bathroom space, but it just wouldn't work with all the closet doors. In the end, I did just the water closet in board and batten using <a href="http://www.younghouselove.com/2013/02/breaking-down-our-57-board-batten/" target="_blank">this</a> tutorial.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's amazing what a little paint can do. I was so relieved to get rid of the last vestiges of the yellow beige color the previous owners loved so much. As in, the loved the icky color so much literally every. single. room. in our house AND the baseboards were all the same color! Maybe it was on sale...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anyway, a fresh coat of paint breathed new life into the room.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We only painted the top half because the bottom will eventually be white.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I painted the bottom and top board white before hanging the vertical boards. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the vertical boards, I used plain lattice cut to fit. I measured and marked each spot and then glued them in place with wood glue. I held them in the correct spot with masking tape until the glue dried. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Once the glue dried and I could remove the tape, I caulked each side of the vertical strips so there would not be a space on the sides. </div>

It seems like tiny houses are everywhere these days. HGTV has a show about them, friends are always posting images on Facebook. Sometime in the last few years there has been a major shift from McMansions to tiny houses. Something about a tiny house has always appealed to me. Our house was not huge by any means, but I frequently thought I would prefer less.<br />
This GORGEOUS <a href="http://hookedonhouses.net/2014/03/11/designing-a-small-house-with-a-big-porch-in-connecticut/" target="_blank">home</a> designed by architect James Crisp is my dream.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I love the style and huge front porch.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
The interior is so open and light. Perfection!<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
When Erin got married, I lucked up and found my very own tiny home. Small spaces can be almost as intimidating to decorate as a mansion. There is so much to fit in a small space, but it definitely makes you live more efficiently. Mine has a little (or a lot) less charm than my dream home, I am still loving it.<br />
<br />
These are some serious #tinyhousegoals.<br />

The kitchen situation in my little rental leaves a lot to be desired. I posted this kitchen below, years ago as my dream bakery. I would still LOVE this for my someday bakery, but for my home I would style it a little differently. I just love how the pastel pink fridge by Big Chill brings a ton of personality to this kitchen, so I created these style boards below using their </span><a href="https://bigchill.com/cook/" style="color: #0068cf; cursor: pointer; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; line-height: 21.3px;" target="_blank">retro stoves</a><span style="font-family: "calibri" , sans-serif; line-height: 21.3px;"> and the Pantone Colors of the year!</span></span><br />

<br />
I ordered all the hardware from Ebay. It took a little time wading through all the *unique* items, but was well worth it. I got exactly what I wanted for about half the price.<br />
<br />
We ordered our countertops through Mississippi Cabinet Company and we could not have been more pleased. We looked several other places but they were way less and it was the exact same counter top at Lowe's. I would have loved real granite, but it just wasn't in the budget right now. Not to mention all the baking I do. One food color spill and that beautiful granite would have been ruined.<br />
<br />
Now for the backsplash, Dad picked up some fab subway tile for us at Dirt Cheap. I love love loved it. I am all about a subway tile and the aqua color was perfect for our house!<br />
<br />
Overall I am thrilled with the results!<br />

The beautiful border and cream hardware. One word: yuck! We kept waiting and delaying starting on it, we had finished all the major projects, except for the kitchen.
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Yikes!! It was soo bad! I really wanted it done, but I was dreading painting the cabinets. Replacing them was wayyy out of the budget. I really wanted a grey green color on the cabinets
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNNB7cJ3PyNlubT4moEN4FgWXbX2bA8o2mHBLNnLACcKsGgOAkpsC6rsxVn_e5Dj4kv-0qWtEOHo8uzME__aMCf100L20MKFp3LSArAJ00dm2RkyNiH0dXAWfMUNiwVjwlSP_mLaz67qgx/s1600/rockport.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNNB7cJ3PyNlubT4moEN4FgWXbX2bA8o2mHBLNnLACcKsGgOAkpsC6rsxVn_e5Dj4kv-0qWtEOHo8uzME__aMCf100L20MKFp3LSArAJ00dm2RkyNiH0dXAWfMUNiwVjwlSP_mLaz67qgx/s1600/rockport.jpg" height="320" width="261" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
But Sissy wasn't diggin' it and to be honest it didn't really go with the rest of the house. We had settled on grey bottom cabinets and white on the top. So we bought the paint and then proceeded to leave it in the closet for the next 6 months. Sis went on a road trip to Idaho, so out of boredom I decided to just go for it.<br />
Since we have oak cabinets we needed to use something to help fill the grain. My Dad happened to have a bucket of Sherwin Williams Natural Filler, so we used that. I just painted on a thin layer, let it dry, and then sanded like a mad woman. If you have an open grain wood this really is an important step. The grain was very visible without the filler.<br />
<br />
After the filler, comes the primer. I rolled on 2 coats on oil based Zinsers.
Then you sand.
We rolled on 3-4 coats of Snowbound. This process took FOR.E.VER. Paint the front let it dry, flip paint the back let it dry, and over and over and over again. Sounding like fun yet?<br />
I sanded them again really well and took them to my dad for the final coat. He sprayed on the final coat and then I covered them with a thin coat of polyacrylic.
and tada we have white cabinets!<br />
I did the uppers first to see what we thought and how the painting would work. I decided the kitchen needed a little warmth so I decided to attempt restaining the wood on the bottom cabinets.<br />
<br />
The restaining was definitely way easier than painting. Apparently this whole process traumatized me so much that I didn't even take pictures. But here's an in between shot to hold you over!<br />
<br />

We had our monthly Bunko party at our house last night. We had a thousand changes in plan which led to a last minute theme change. Sissy and I decided to do a "pink out," everyone wore pink and we were going to decorate all in pink. The only problem is, we had been planning on a fiesta theme until a few days ago. Nothing like the last minute and late night crafting! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
To go with our pink them I decided to whip up a few of these cute hearts.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwqEbinVrlPIvfHujPDZ7wdfGL9cws_EOnid2tXtT9ADnS3cQ_PcyEJj4x2ya1UEeh0aAXkcyWrrLIVPQMs1sDS_3SNHb3C1AA7b9Hjzt0mfgLsMGxforzYYjnwRluzbDvpYaXjlaQuTOm/s1600/IMG_0780.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwqEbinVrlPIvfHujPDZ7wdfGL9cws_EOnid2tXtT9ADnS3cQ_PcyEJj4x2ya1UEeh0aAXkcyWrrLIVPQMs1sDS_3SNHb3C1AA7b9Hjzt0mfgLsMGxforzYYjnwRluzbDvpYaXjlaQuTOm/s1600/IMG_0780.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was half way into the process before I realized I hadn't taken pictures. I cut out hearts out of cardboard first. Then I dipped the tips of coffee filters into water with food coloring. I would have let them air dry, but I was short on time so I stuck them in the oven on the lowest setting. (The lowest mine would go was 170.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggJ0gBJ2zdDkvX9wbijKP0q_bfwGuI643w4mT9n1A6hqlVD27fp2N2rcMuvQzrk76efZTgeFX5CdkqQ2-UDGEn6MkqTAeoy56_bSQAmzkNZ-RONrM9kywjPZR8VNNkaPIbRd6keYkbPbhyphenhyphen/s1600/IMG_0776.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggJ0gBJ2zdDkvX9wbijKP0q_bfwGuI643w4mT9n1A6hqlVD27fp2N2rcMuvQzrk76efZTgeFX5CdkqQ2-UDGEn6MkqTAeoy56_bSQAmzkNZ-RONrM9kywjPZR8VNNkaPIbRd6keYkbPbhyphenhyphen/s1600/IMG_0776.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Then just twist the middle of the coffee filter to make a "flower."<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiN9VlBx89aJYjwzToVkAp4qSCQf3fDObz1VDCPLrlQPQffwYfQxSSc_AgCa5MSwUKVtOy92ZRFMHzFiYzU_Rrs5RQjPka9X0Oqj-WB0y3LpncKhcJJK3EpRpzg4h-lzO2MrDxnUuCBe-Df/s1600/DSCN0712.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiN9VlBx89aJYjwzToVkAp4qSCQf3fDObz1VDCPLrlQPQffwYfQxSSc_AgCa5MSwUKVtOy92ZRFMHzFiYzU_Rrs5RQjPka9X0Oqj-WB0y3LpncKhcJJK3EpRpzg4h-lzO2MrDxnUuCBe-Df/s1600/DSCN0712.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used a hole puncher to make holes in my cardboard heart. I made a ton of holes along the edges, but I ended up only using about half of the holes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcrs9MyWz6otuLf3islP7eOdA4SE5ZSX_rVJvkNjmhwnYxpURQlVfHtzyjfl_8qXAMuIUqxNtpsNtOjWhcALOanUcGi9n_rAWzUpgUHZ44gCcgHoQMa-gJK1aDbTkRzYemiIDpdQY2ulFQ/s1600/DSCN0713.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcrs9MyWz6otuLf3islP7eOdA4SE5ZSX_rVJvkNjmhwnYxpURQlVfHtzyjfl_8qXAMuIUqxNtpsNtOjWhcALOanUcGi9n_rAWzUpgUHZ44gCcgHoQMa-gJK1aDbTkRzYemiIDpdQY2ulFQ/s1600/DSCN0713.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
Then start putting your filter flowers into the holes until it is all covered. And you have simple, cheap, and most importantly super cute Valentine's decorations!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwqEbinVrlPIvfHujPDZ7wdfGL9cws_EOnid2tXtT9ADnS3cQ_PcyEJj4x2ya1UEeh0aAXkcyWrrLIVPQMs1sDS_3SNHb3C1AA7b9Hjzt0mfgLsMGxforzYYjnwRluzbDvpYaXjlaQuTOm/s1600/IMG_0780.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwqEbinVrlPIvfHujPDZ7wdfGL9cws_EOnid2tXtT9ADnS3cQ_PcyEJj4x2ya1UEeh0aAXkcyWrrLIVPQMs1sDS_3SNHb3C1AA7b9Hjzt0mfgLsMGxforzYYjnwRluzbDvpYaXjlaQuTOm/s1600/IMG_0780.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One down, three to go! I am going to attempt this with letters this weekend. The filter flowers look similar to carnations, so I thought it might make cute decor for wedding or baby showers. I'll let you know how it goes! What do you think, love it or leave it?</div>

I eventually learned the key to laying this pattern is to get a lot of tile on the wall first and then space it. (My daddy may or may not have said that in the first 5 minutes and approximately 2 hours later I started listening! <span style="font-size: xx-small;">hehe oops</span><span style="font-size: small;">)</span><br />

Here goes...it's take three at blogging! The last year has been insane with school and work and a million other things. This year is going to be just as nuts since now I get to help plan a wedding!! My sissy sue is getting married!!!! I just finished my class yesterday and I SWORE to myself last week that I would only work on one project at a time. That all went out the window as soon as I got home. I started 3 yesterday, oops... I like to keep busy so it's all good :) Since my last post was about the inspiration for the Belmont house, I thought I would share some progress shots. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the kitchen around Christmas time, since then we have *finally* put up the backsplash. I can't wait to get some pics of it and share them. I love laying tile (I know I'm weird), I think it is because it makes such a huge impact. </div>

Blogging take two! It has been a long time since I have posted, life got really busy after Nicaragua. My parents have almost finished their remodel now; the interior just needs some final touches. These are a few of my inspiration photos.</div>

It seems like wedding season has changed in recent years from summer to early fall. My facebook feed has been filled lately with wedding pictures and updates. To {attempt to} get in the spirit of things, I thought I would share a wedding cake stand I did a few months ago. This is only a semi tutorial because one of the steps requires having a super awesome dad cut things for you. Anywhoo... This was an inspiration photo sent to me by a bride.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVAedPIv_q-fSpDJ-QXrAQ_lXSaSlt__X9uKpolJaRKl-JaunPIO2GxvnphZUkpNY4Z47vfYg9EJKs2DZEs_7We5rZ5dZq0xFxZehjqACZ82dQ5ZIkcDVkW1Kczw4CTWE5vXdCHy7tnfCI/s1600/image+(6).jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVAedPIv_q-fSpDJ-QXrAQ_lXSaSlt__X9uKpolJaRKl-JaunPIO2GxvnphZUkpNY4Z47vfYg9EJKs2DZEs_7We5rZ5dZq0xFxZehjqACZ82dQ5ZIkcDVkW1Kczw4CTWE5vXdCHy7tnfCI/s640/image+(6).jpeg" width="470" /></a></div>
<br />
We both loved the cake stand and I wanted something similar. They are really hard to find though and a little pricey, so of course I decided to make my own. I had my dad cut the wood for me, because he is awesome like that. He said he just used a chainsaw to cut thin wood cookies {yes that is really what they are called} and then a small tree for the pedestal. <br />
<br />
I was in a hurry to use them the first time so I took a not recommended short cut here. What you should do here, is wrap them in paper bags or put them in the freezer for several weeks to dry slowly. What I did was put them in the oven on a low temp to kill all the buggies and dry the wood a bit. Not recommended because the cookies definitely cracked. If you dry them slowly the wood will not crack.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmtGjJX2lyjErlwc4Z2F6QUM7FXOPU8xh8E-wPPuQfG8W-NnbErNmjlIXR7d3AV6XwPhUvHTzshnyc8Vv8EkuSE5VBkZHryzfWTtECnMXT4oW9k6UaZq_ZmMS0gI2euBhCWPdm31X5c581/s1600/IMG_1940.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmtGjJX2lyjErlwc4Z2F6QUM7FXOPU8xh8E-wPPuQfG8W-NnbErNmjlIXR7d3AV6XwPhUvHTzshnyc8Vv8EkuSE5VBkZHryzfWTtECnMXT4oW9k6UaZq_ZmMS0gI2euBhCWPdm31X5c581/s640/IMG_1940.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So pretend like you have nice uncracked wood cookies here. I sanded down both sides of each with a belt sander.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifNo8_IwEXMvRo_4Yv9aG1vHtdRXREDURnrm3kV9uRp-pKsJWjQieBreti1ge2t2UeAwiQN_AZORNZNVxNVjPgjiIoGAFccpbep5hv_BNaxcUJQqCBiTPS84A-KqmCiLkZlQemCGMi6nw5/s1600/IMG_1943.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifNo8_IwEXMvRo_4Yv9aG1vHtdRXREDURnrm3kV9uRp-pKsJWjQieBreti1ge2t2UeAwiQN_AZORNZNVxNVjPgjiIoGAFccpbep5hv_BNaxcUJQqCBiTPS84A-KqmCiLkZlQemCGMi6nw5/s640/IMG_1943.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I stacked the pieces in the order I wanted them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxsGV53PAA3VjrZtX1GWHE6WZBN4DKOGTdLKPNIlzjGQYENmnT4DyalwD1q1MuihP4jgS4Rika5cD-EcBRVDNGpOjxl1fiWu0mbZUXKvB6SYIDRE_h4HeQqtZoFt3ygfAdKCVmQGtnZ-RV/s1600/IMG_1939.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxsGV53PAA3VjrZtX1GWHE6WZBN4DKOGTdLKPNIlzjGQYENmnT4DyalwD1q1MuihP4jgS4Rika5cD-EcBRVDNGpOjxl1fiWu0mbZUXKvB6SYIDRE_h4HeQqtZoFt3ygfAdKCVmQGtnZ-RV/s640/IMG_1939.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I drilled a hole through the cookie and the pedestal at the same time. Then through the bottom of the next pedestal.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXtZe2LIrpAOfLJYar546Rs3vojZGYKO54WOVFL8TXxB9cD9IxS2RAkZgYnHFEfHMhtXypvqXOGr9zrnYVL8n96MfO-khZqnETKt46vw_dO3aOE3l842N1FbMvWDt7zPYCI5h-nOqePpAO/s1600/IMG_1946.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXtZe2LIrpAOfLJYar546Rs3vojZGYKO54WOVFL8TXxB9cD9IxS2RAkZgYnHFEfHMhtXypvqXOGr9zrnYVL8n96MfO-khZqnETKt46vw_dO3aOE3l842N1FbMvWDt7zPYCI5h-nOqePpAO/s640/IMG_1946.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I cut three inch sections of a dowel rod and used that to connect the middle tiers. The bottom and top tier I connected with screws for extra stability. The dowel rods in the middle allows me to disassemble it for transportation and rearrange the cookies to add or take away layers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkysiuQ5MYH_v6iCwronC8SedV8xWuXfqDXeHgYkob5wkYP8XaVMNIaPkMnxdEJxSeFMDcd_4cCONjw76zX979mUbDWx9lSY-EOD4wBrfMTWVFejIaGY50mrAozhKXi7yrJh6S8yngslh6/s1600/IMG_1944.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkysiuQ5MYH_v6iCwronC8SedV8xWuXfqDXeHgYkob5wkYP8XaVMNIaPkMnxdEJxSeFMDcd_4cCONjw76zX979mUbDWx9lSY-EOD4wBrfMTWVFejIaGY50mrAozhKXi7yrJh6S8yngslh6/s640/IMG_1944.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then just clean it really well and you are finished!</div>
<br />
I love the way it turned out. The look was perfect for the feel of the wedding. This was one of my favorite cakes and weddings to date. I love when weddings {and interiors} completely reflect the couple's personalities.<br />

I was just overwhelmed with the thought of upholstering an entire couch. So I just put it off, and put it off, and put it off again. Then when I finally decided to start, I realized I was going to need at least ten yards of good fabric. I realize that $35 a yard is not that bad for upholstery fabric, but I like a bargain. I loved <a href="http://www.dwellstudio.com/DwellStudio-CASABLANCA-GEO-CITRINE-RA-215348-DWL3823.html" target="_blank">this fabric</a> from Dwell Studio in the toffee colorway and found it at my favorite <a href="http://www.phifabrics.com/" target="_blank">fabric store</a>. You know I have their sale schedule memorized by heart so I just had to be patient. I ended up getting it 40% off. Woop whoop!! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgby64BmdmZy2mhaU9JD81H0twM87wvu4RQ6ABXiNXhtsgwgYdr_mLV9A0a5rHEnsn1h3q0QYfYt0SMpFKm0MUbtx-jSDQMF-zjs5FLRJ6shWiRGroL-dpCH0QYEKuup1jKRgSG4X4bQktS/s1600/fabric+sample.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="390" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgby64BmdmZy2mhaU9JD81H0twM87wvu4RQ6ABXiNXhtsgwgYdr_mLV9A0a5rHEnsn1h3q0QYfYt0SMpFKm0MUbtx-jSDQMF-zjs5FLRJ6shWiRGroL-dpCH0QYEKuup1jKRgSG4X4bQktS/s640/fabric+sample.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And then I got to work, removing a million kazillion staples. I really have no set method to my madness. I make sure to document every step with pictures and take notes.<br />

<br />
This couch once I got it apart was even more work than I had expected. The springs were gone in most of them and a lot of the webbing was rotted as well. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT8wK3FXRPEYdV2I1jlD2lqfTYq56NEnGpG-CBU-Of1r1AN_7HsfdqzhUBonGoA73l54m5TZXDVVgza-NycwwX5B5BFNoyl37Wf6SFaHWZTnZvBB0Vz5Qj6mcQ4ofPLj-5-utozwE_RY5x/s1600/022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT8wK3FXRPEYdV2I1jlD2lqfTYq56NEnGpG-CBU-Of1r1AN_7HsfdqzhUBonGoA73l54m5TZXDVVgza-NycwwX5B5BFNoyl37Wf6SFaHWZTnZvBB0Vz5Qj6mcQ4ofPLj-5-utozwE_RY5x/s640/022.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
At this point, I gave up for a week until Erin had a fit and said it had to be finished and out of the living room. She loves living with me...<br />
I used <a href="http://www.designsponge.com/2011/08/upholstery-basics-constructing-coil-seats-part-i.html" target="_blank">this tutorial</a> as a guide for the webbing and spring tying. My poor fingers were so sore by the end!<br />
<br />
Then it was on to the upholstering. I used the removed fabric as a pattern for the new fabric and started putting it back together. The cushions once I finished them looked a little flat, so I made down inserts to go on the top. I really wanted down cushions, but it was just way to expensive and messy. Those stupid feathers get everywhere!<br />

I do kinda love it. This was a live and learn project for me. In retrospect, I would have hired out the spring tying and webbing it was a pain and it's not super comfy since I was a first timer. And I probably would have chosen a bright solid linen fabric. I wanted something graphic, but by the time I finished I was already a little tired of it. Since I have been away for a few months though looking at pictures it looks fresh again, winner!</div>

I know most people are not thrilled by the idea of painting, but that made my day. I have been dying to make something since we took a trip to Masatepe, where they make all the handmade souvenirs and furniture. I saw so many people working with power tools; it took all I had not to take them out of their hands and get to work!<br />
There is just something so rewarding to me about doing physical work. <br />
<br />
I was ready to get back to some house design stuff after that, so I pulled together a couple inspiration boards for my mom's house. She already purchased the couch I used and they installed the fire place. Hopefully I will get pictures soon!<br />
<br />
The first one is a little brighter and more casual.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrF6JMkVk9gug4_DyYh3aMClAC0x_2GHIoyI2Lm5v6qH99c4fOkcaba3nDqy5JsvX0jwA4tMlqufjBADZHBuXZTMOyEc3Ywi52gfYRGpqIcMAQupwhsAhEfzdCifaDgz3MQ-LFs27jXKi-/s1600/Mom's+ideas+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrF6JMkVk9gug4_DyYh3aMClAC0x_2GHIoyI2Lm5v6qH99c4fOkcaba3nDqy5JsvX0jwA4tMlqufjBADZHBuXZTMOyEc3Ywi52gfYRGpqIcMAQupwhsAhEfzdCifaDgz3MQ-LFs27jXKi-/s640/Mom's+ideas+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
The second option is a little more country and probably more suited to my parent's taste.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3c3Z9FxSzi2NTke-oyph5gLVmvsiTRb81O4h-1-J8DuO7v3RJhwfr7gw3tcfgBUUWIATaDP6ePcUb2npJqCkL0A1mOCs2DPdCtHEg6DByK-rvjlYO4c9S2lPIJ1gGKyduloLnD9lCy5Ad/s1600/Farm+ish+option+copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="512" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3c3Z9FxSzi2NTke-oyph5gLVmvsiTRb81O4h-1-J8DuO7v3RJhwfr7gw3tcfgBUUWIATaDP6ePcUb2npJqCkL0A1mOCs2DPdCtHEg6DByK-rvjlYO4c9S2lPIJ1gGKyduloLnD9lCy5Ad/s640/Farm+ish+option+copy.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
Although lets be real here, they are never going to go for either one because my daddy needs a<br />
La-Z-Boy. I have no idea where my design infatuation came from!<br />

All my usual home improvement, craft projects have been the last thing on my mind lately. I will admit I do miss my projects just a little bit. Since I have been here this year, I have seen a lot more tourists than in years past. I think the rest of the world is catching up to what we already knew, Nicaragua is amazing. It has been all over travel lists this year especially on "best bang for your buck" type lists. So here are my top ten reasons to visit Nicaragua.<br />
<br />
10. It is cheap. You can get a room at a nice hotel/hostel in the middle of the city WITH air conditioning for about $17 per night and a good meal for around $2<br />
<br />
9. Fantastic food<br />
<br />
8. Rainforest zip line<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSjO5hsMs9pqUY4z11ZBdGyjnSmjRLC_SXK7ifB96TVAtPF3dbQjVJ4PWzeNNAB2skfnzI0kTK_EVO8umr8-xwSZDs2WQIwOX_9J8KcmhU18UkTl6X_2nNRFhuHMAlpAA5526h-y9jf3wU/s1600/IMG_7513.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSjO5hsMs9pqUY4z11ZBdGyjnSmjRLC_SXK7ifB96TVAtPF3dbQjVJ4PWzeNNAB2skfnzI0kTK_EVO8umr8-xwSZDs2WQIwOX_9J8KcmhU18UkTl6X_2nNRFhuHMAlpAA5526h-y9jf3wU/s640/IMG_7513.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
7. Amazingly friendly people<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP3IVJrk6jLU1LLyB9I1PV7OCOAVMhaOpXSIS7QOkXsaYFMHHfJwI_Hf5po3IswJmCR3a8Ot098YY7WY9k0mbKAPZPkCAPtCelw5Faver8Umk5ppBkMfJVLekkH3vpIOtkFmZ7IvtZkK9q/s1600/IMG_2293.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP3IVJrk6jLU1LLyB9I1PV7OCOAVMhaOpXSIS7QOkXsaYFMHHfJwI_Hf5po3IswJmCR3a8Ot098YY7WY9k0mbKAPZPkCAPtCelw5Faver8Umk5ppBkMfJVLekkH3vpIOtkFmZ7IvtZkK9q/s640/IMG_2293.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
6. 5. Still non-touristy<br />
<br />
4. Telica night hike<a href="http://experimentalhappiness.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/p7244078.jpg"><img alt="" class="size-full wp-image-895" height="480" originalh="480" originalw="640" scale="1.5" src="http://experimentalhappiness.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/p7244078.jpg?w=640&h=480" title="Deep in the crater" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
3. Volcano surfing - where else in the world can you do that<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

A tiny article counts in my book! I only have a few pictures stolen from Facebook since I'm not in the States, but I am so excited to share this!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2wxSZ6RCiPYbM6pigp_SH5LdgoUA0JRJux3eNPuN5FhQrBqiXo-5udSoCZ5OYvr1HcZgGlg1bcxu1EV1d-RdMdERjgIIcpNIPExqTxx2ifQasZNxlnkyN6bG8y4LQl6Muw_8ODVlfJp29/s1600/944433_577577522262591_1986553182_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2wxSZ6RCiPYbM6pigp_SH5LdgoUA0JRJux3eNPuN5FhQrBqiXo-5udSoCZ5OYvr1HcZgGlg1bcxu1EV1d-RdMdERjgIIcpNIPExqTxx2ifQasZNxlnkyN6bG8y4LQl6Muw_8ODVlfJp29/s640/944433_577577522262591_1986553182_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8dt9b0fNh6U29CX2VxI4WLbPW3j0k4_dukwB7u8iTGm5VrLUAv7JjvX-CEOTGf57IQrs0dPSMLyCYgGF1QgJ6NT1Rr_va5OsuYac-r5tSwny596W2i-4W11UBZRfsMGpz4JUB4awYuMBn/s1600/999386_577577665595910_1475953285_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8dt9b0fNh6U29CX2VxI4WLbPW3j0k4_dukwB7u8iTGm5VrLUAv7JjvX-CEOTGf57IQrs0dPSMLyCYgGF1QgJ6NT1Rr_va5OsuYac-r5tSwny596W2i-4W11UBZRfsMGpz4JUB4awYuMBn/s640/999386_577577665595910_1475953285_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Now for a quick how to. I found a nice solid wood headboard at the thrift store for about $20. I measured the footboard and cut it in half.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAW2yc6xoNBhY77SRhw1RbkgkXXZW3vAKRMsGblQ1LqQgXV03LD5Dql_UU3x_7jJ1kDVdH2t3S21hAKPZ27s6DBWmpWgJ8tHVt53Jk9B6SYaVXP0mghzZezLwZIcD2I8693Fsz75hmtW-g/s1600/717.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAW2yc6xoNBhY77SRhw1RbkgkXXZW3vAKRMsGblQ1LqQgXV03LD5Dql_UU3x_7jJ1kDVdH2t3S21hAKPZ27s6DBWmpWgJ8tHVt53Jk9B6SYaVXP0mghzZezLwZIcD2I8693Fsz75hmtW-g/s640/717.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My foot board was a little shorter than I wanted it so I cut off the original legs and added store bought table legs for extra height.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc-bGNPo2TSgDJtbDTL84-iCAEjyndhF_DV_jmVHOYgPbUx30F_m3w5V-IWS5gmI6GZuRLc9n3KWxAgw_o0amjR9xTe8b8vnZWnmyi8c72v3nL21Cr-Otd4Jfbq1zVX6i9W_ppsDWkAmaR/s1600/727.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc-bGNPo2TSgDJtbDTL84-iCAEjyndhF_DV_jmVHOYgPbUx30F_m3w5V-IWS5gmI6GZuRLc9n3KWxAgw_o0amjR9xTe8b8vnZWnmyi8c72v3nL21Cr-Otd4Jfbq1zVX6i9W_ppsDWkAmaR/s640/727.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used dowel rods and wood glue to connect the headboard and footboard. Erin helped me with this step, math is not my forte.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjObFGvnLGESPDPSaq95g0YUw_Vklj4zzcGI_k2Et8T_SRepyFfvIFimyJwl3-hV3yXvCPB5J2EIp02iZJLwj6oAFb6Twi-yG6E4ALqV8KBELiT6fPhwpF-B9zXy5vf5jOghVwwgNoGP52T/s1600/352.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="530" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjObFGvnLGESPDPSaq95g0YUw_Vklj4zzcGI_k2Et8T_SRepyFfvIFimyJwl3-hV3yXvCPB5J2EIp02iZJLwj6oAFb6Twi-yG6E4ALqV8KBELiT6fPhwpF-B9zXy5vf5jOghVwwgNoGP52T/s640/352.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the seat I used 1x3 slats and rested them on the top ledge of the footboard and used corner brackets to attach them. Then I just sanded the whole thing and spray painted it. I used Valspar spray paint which is the bomb diggity. It covers so quickly and doesn't run.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the cushion I followed <a href="http://www.designsponge.com/2012/01/upholstery-basics-boxed-cushion-sewing.html" target="_blank">this</a> tutorial and made quick pillows.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
P.S. I had planned to update regularly, but Nicaraguan electricity has other plans so I will update as I can.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
The weather has been so beautiful here, so I have been dying to get out and work in the yard. I have a daily war with myself; I'm dying to work on something and am trying to keep my self-imposed break. I keep telling myself it's crazy to do a lot of yard work this year when I won't even be here to enjoy it. Our yard needs some major landscaping assistance though. For now, I'm trying to just work with what we have (which is mainly a few hostas and the can-not-be-killed mint) and clean everything up a bit.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I would love something structured like this for my herbs. Except you know 1/100th of the size.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img border="0" class="rg_i" data-sz="f" height="282" name="X1j54N244f-b_M:" src="https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT1pQrMGWEB-GKdotQRE6VroCvpdRB6_Ui1FGwal2C6-MmnJUcC" style="height: 166px; margin-top: 0px; width: 235px;" width="400" /></div>
<br />
These are little more feasible though and super cute.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img class="rg_i" data-sz="f" height="310" name="IIZyUWvpABo4JM:" src="https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRHzathxVOJxUbGB_bznXYi4OZutx2IMieZ-7pDsDYHmuPtsN9WZw" style="height: 163px; margin-left: -5px; margin-top: 0px; width: 210px;" width="400" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img class="rg_i" data-sz="f" name="QTZ1aYLhp3kQxM:" src="https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSJpe9rL-O8dhAtuDur0xlINniFpqcdEXZSdNKSo42oNZL2ClXdHw" style="height: 180px; margin-left: 0px; margin-top: -8px; width: 275px;" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Most of my herbs from last year survived the winter, so I need to find an attractive way to pot them. There is no way I'm planting mint directly in the ground, that stuff takes over everything!</div>

I just took a mini blogging break, while I get everything in order. I will be in Nicaragua for 6 months starting at the end of May and it just hit me how quickly that is coming up! It seemed so far away and like I had plenty of time. Then it hit me it's right around the corner! All of sudden I have to get new insurance, banking, and a million other little things to take care of before I go. Apparently, leaving the country is a little more complicated than just buying a plane ticket! :)<br />
<br />
Since I have been rushing to get everything in before I leave, I have done my very best to put most house projects aside for now. Even though it drives me nuts not to work on something!<br />
<br />
And I had my first DIY disaster. After this happened attempting to hang crown molding by myself I decided that was reason number 2 to take a break until I could get a little help.<br />

<br />
Apparently a ceramic sink and nail gun do not mix. I am NOT happy about this sink situation. Now I am on the hunt for another one that will fit in the little space and trying to sweet talk my daddy into installing another sink! <br />

They will probably go a lot more traditional and rustic at their house. My dad loves the idea of a stone wall or fireplace. I spent some time looking through houzz this weekend and loved these fireplaces for them.<br />
